PRESS RELEASE
Global Communication Semiconductors, Inc. (GCS) Announces DHBT
InP Process
Development.
GCS,
a pure play compound semiconductor foundry, is now offering DHBT InP.
December 18, 2001, TORRANCE, CALIF. - - - GCS,
Inc. (Global Communications Semiconductor, Inc.) a pure-play
compound semiconductor wafer foundry announced today that it has
made a significant advancement in it’s proprietary InP (Indium
Phosphide) HBT foundry services by adding a DHBT process.
"With our InP SHBT process we have already
been able to address a number of 40Gb/sec OC-768 applications with a
Ft of >160GHz, Fmax of >180GHz and a BVCEO
of >3V" remarked Chanh Nguyen, CTO of GCS. "However,
for power amplifiers and modulator drivers, a higher BVCEO
is desirable. Our DHBT InP process yields a BVCEO of
>8V with a Ft above 150 GHz at a low current density of
1 mA/µm2. This new DHBT process also takes advantage of
the GCS low-loss interconnect technology GCS developed for
high-speed circuits." continued Dr. Nguyen.
"Now with our new proprietary DHBT process technology, GCS
can offer flexibility of both SHBT and DHBT InP foundry services to
our customers to address their demanding IC performance
requirements." commented Owen K. Wu, CEO and President of GCS.
As the only pure-play InP foundry, GCS continues to play a pivotal
role to assist companies to bring 40Gp/s components and 3G power
amplifier products to market. Our optoelectronics group also
recently announced breakthroughs in 1.31 and 1.55 micron InP based
PiN Diodes. By combining our optoelectronics and InP HBT process
technologies, GCS can address OEIC (Opto Electronic Integrated
Circuit) applications. We are now beginning to engage with companies
that are interested in targeting OEIC applications." Continued
Dr. Wu.
