PRESS RELEASE
Global Communication Semiconductors, Inc. (GCS) Announces
New Focus in InGaP and InP HBT.
GCS,
a pure play compound semiconductor foundry, has reorganized to react
to the market demand for advanced HBT technologies.
October 15, 2001, TORRANCE, CALIF. - - - GCS,
Inc. (Global Communications Semiconductor, Inc.) a pure-play
compound semiconductor wafer foundry announced today that it has
made significant changes in its business focus to address the
increasing demand for InGaP and InP (Indium Phosphide) HBT foundry
processes.
"Due to the recent press release by our
customer, Inphi, it is now public knowledge that GCS has the most
advanced and highest performing InP process in the world."
remarked Chanh Nguyen, CTO. "Although circuit performance is
equally dependent upon design, GCS’ proprietary InP HBT technology
which utilizes a low-loss interconnect (for high-speed circuits) and
a carbon-doped base (ensuring long-term reliability) will meet the
most demanding performance needs for those designing into OC-768
applications and future needs for high performance PA’s."
continued Dr. Nguyen.
To facilitate the focus on HBT GCS has
reorganized its work force and technical team. "In the past GCS
has provided advanced compound semiconductor foundry services in a
wide variety of technologies. However, with our recent achievements
in InGaP HBT reliability and world leading InP HBT performance it
became evident that GCS’ future is in HBT." Commented Owen K.
Wu, CEO and President of GCS. "As GCS gears up for InGaP and
InP HBT production we will infuse additional specialization into our
organization to support our new business focus. This specialization
also includes the integration of HBT technology with optoelectronics
for future OEIC applications." Continued Dr. Wu.
