PRESS RELEASE
Global Communication Semiconductors, Inc. (GCS) Announces
Don Brooks as New Chairman
May 28, 2002, TORRANCE, CALIF. - - - Global
Communications Semiconductor, Inc. (GCS), a leading pure-play III-V
compound semiconductor foundry service provider, announced today
that its new board of directors has elected Don Brooks, former
President of TSMC and UMC, and current chairman of KLM Capital
Group, as GCS’ Chairman of the Board.
"We are extremely
pleased that Don Brooks has accepted the position of Chairman. His
vast experience, knowledge and reputation in the silicon wafer
foundry business will be an invaluable and enviable asset to
GCS," said Dr. S.K. Dave Wang, COO and acting President and CEO
of GCS. "Don’s past experience includes directing the world’s
leading silicon foundries as TSMC’s president and UMC’s
president and co-CEO. GCS has always strived to emulate TSMC’s
pure-play business model in III-V compound semiconductors. With Don’s
counsel we are definitely closer to realizing our potential as the
world’s leading pure-play compound semiconductor foundry,"
continued Dr. Wang.
"I am pleased and excited about my new
position as GCS’ Chairman," said Don Brooks. "In my
opinion GCS provides much needed advanced compound semiconductor
technologies across a broad spectrum of products for both wireless
and high-speed fiber optical markets. I’m especially impressed
with GCS’ management team and manufacturing preparedness. This
situation reminds me of the early days at TSMC. Like silicon, in the
early 90's, we will see growth in III-V foundries fueled by new
fabless design companies." continued Brooks.
