Global
Communication Semiconductors, Inc. (GCS) Announces Low Cost 0.5um PHEMT Switch
Foundry Process for GSM Switch Application
March
28 2005 TORRANCE, CALIF. - - - GCS, Inc. (Global Communication Semiconductors,
Inc.), a pure-play III-V compound semiconductor wafer foundry announced today
that its proprietary low cost PHEMT switch process will now be offered to
address the high linearity and compact size requirements of SP6T switches for
GSM cell phone applications.
“Our
low cost 0.5um PHEMT switch process was developed specifically for GSM cell
phone applications with high linearity performance in mind. This process
provides a breakdown voltage of 20V with a pinch off voltage of –1.0V. It has
been used to design GSM SP6T switches to handle input powers of up to 4 watts
with second and third harmonics lower than -80 dBc,” commented Dr. Sam Lee,
Chief Executive Officer of GCS.
“Besides having an excellent linearity performance, our switch process also
exhibits low insertion loss and high isolation characteristics. A typical
insertion loss of 0.3 dB with isolation of greater than 20 dB can be obtained
from a GSM SP6T switch measured at 900 MHz. The excellent performance allows
our customers to design a variety of switches in today’s cost competitive
market. During the past years, several of our strategic customers, with access
to our pre-announced process, have already designed switch products in SP2T,
SP3T, SP4T and SP6T configurations. All of them have demonstrated excellent
results. Several of these switch products are now in volume production with
electrical yield of greater than 98%. This low cost PHEMT Switch process gives
a competitive edge to our foundry customers in addressing different switch
requirements in today’s price competitive environment,” continued Dr. Lee.
