Global Communication Semiconductors, Inc. (GCS) Initiates Search for New CEO

January 31st, 2002, TORRANCE, CALIF. - - - GCS, Inc. (Global Communications Semiconductor, Inc.), a leading pure-play III-V compound semiconductor foundry service provider, announced today that it has begun the search for a new President and CEO. GCS has also named the existing COO, Dr. S K Dave Wang, as the acting CEO and President. Dr. Wang is a veteran in the III-V compound semiconductor industry with over 24 years of experience with TRW, Hughes Aircraft Co., and Westinghouse R&D Center. The Founder and former CEO, Dr. Owen Wu, will take the role of Chief Strategy Officer and remain a member on the board of directors.

GCS recently announced a financing round of $17.5M on Jan.11, 2002. Subsequent to this financing, the new board has formed a search committee to seek candidates to fill the President and CEO position. Dr. Wang commented, "We appreciate Dr. Wu’s vision and his contribution to the development of GCS, and we are pleased that he can continue to contribute his industry insight and experience to GCS in his new role as Chief Strategy Officer. We anticipate that the new CEO and President will bring strong leadership and focused direction to GCS with the goals of achieving profitability and an eventual IPO".

In his new role as CSO, Dr. Owen Wu will work closely with the President and CEO to identify, develop and execute GCS’ global relationships with customers and strategic partners to further strengthen the Company’s position as the number one pure-play compound semiconductor foundry in the world.

Global Communication Semiconductors Inc., based in Torrance, California, an ISO 9002 certified company, provides compound semiconductor foundry services to the wireless telecommunication and high-speed networking industries. GCS currently offers foundry service for both InGaP and InP HBT processes and provides optoelectronic foundry services for PIN diodes used in the fiber optic communication market.
